Thank you for being a friend. Betty White entertained audiences for more than 60 years, and now the beloved TV star’s legacy is being celebrated exactly one month to the day since her death. Celebrating Betty White: America’s Golden Girl, an hourlong special paying tribute to White will premiere on NBC on Monday (Jan. 31) at 10 p.m. ET/PT, and will stream on Peacock the following day.
Cher is billed to sing the Golden Girls theme song, “Thank You for Being a Friend,” during the special, which will include nostalgic clips of White’s many memorable moments and never-before-seen footage. Cher shared a sneak peek of the performance on her social media accounts on Friday (Jan. 28).
Valerie Bertinelli, Bryan Cranston, Ted Danson, Drew Barrymore, Ellen DeGeneres, Anthony Mackie, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, Ana Gasteyer, Goldie Hawn, Vicki Lawrence, Jane Leeves, Jay Leno, Wendie Malick, Joel McHale, Jean Smart and Mary Steenburgen are some of the special guests slated to appear in the special along with President Joe Biden.
White, 99, died on New Year’s Eve — just over two weeks shy of her 100th birthday. To celebrate what would have been her centennial, fans donated $5 to local animal shelters in honor of White’s lifelong animal advocacy. The #BettyWhiteChallenge raised $12.7 million for animal shelters.

If you’ don’t have cable, or haven’t invested in an antenna for your television, there are still ways to watch Celebrating Betty White live without paying anything upfront. Sling TV, Philo TV and Fubo TV comes with NBC and the tons of other cable and network channels for less than $35. Each platform offers a free trial for at least three days.
There’s also Hulu + Live TV ($69.99 a month), which includes more 75 live channels with access to Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+. Direct TV Stream (starting at $70 a month) is another option for live television, but you won’t get a free trial.
Celebrating Betty White will begin streaming on Peacock on Tuesday (Feb. 1). To watch the special, you’ll need to be signed up to Peacock Premium ($4.99 a month). Upcoming Peacock series include Bel-Air premiering on Sunday, Feb. 13, followed by Joe vs. Carole, a scripted series starring Kate McKinnon and John Cameron Mitchell debuting on March 3. The series is based on the podcast Joe Exotic: Tiger King.
