Zedd Zooms In at No. 1 on Top Dance/Electronic Albums

Zedd zips onto Billboard‘s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart (dated June 6) with his first No. 1, True Colors. The DJ’s sophomore effort starts with 39,000 units, according to Nielsen Music. His first album, Clarity, topped out at No. 2 and has sold 208,000 to date. Colors also opens at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. The last time a DJ debuted as high on the big chart was April 5, 2014, when Skrillex entered at the same rank with Recess (47,000 sold).
Zedd’s first single from Colors, the Selena Gomez-sung “I Want You to Know,” spent six weeks atop Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and holds this week at No. 5. Meanwhile, new single “Beautiful Now,” featuring Jon Bellion, rockets 14 positions to No. 6, becoming Zedd’s seventh top 10. That’s the most of any act since the chart’s Jan. 26, 2013 inception: David Guetta and Calvin Harris follow with six top 10s each. “Beautiful,” which Zedd performed on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! on May 21, gains by 186 percent to 36,000 downloads sold.

As often happens concurrent with stars’ album arrivals, Zedd debuts additional tracks from Colors on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs: “Papercut,” featuring Troye Sivan (No. 31), “Transmission,” featuring Logic & X Ambassadors (No. 41), “Done With Love” (No. 45) and “Illusion,” featuring Echosmith (No. 49). Meanwhile, the set’s “Addicted to a Memory,” featuring Bahari, cruises 40-25; it peaked at No. 18 upon its debut five weeks ago.
Speaking of Guetta, he grabs his first No. 1 on Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs with “Hey Mama” (3-1). At No. 1 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs for a sixth week, the track doubles in streaming following last week’s premiere of its video (7 million U.S. streams). As previously reported, “Mama,” featuring Nicki Minaj, Bebe Rexha and Afrojack, ascends 11-8 on the Billboard Hot 100, granting Guetta his first top 10 since “Titanium,” featuring Sia, in 2012.
Shifting to Dance/Mix Show Airplay, Jason Derulo draws his first No. 1 with “Want to Want Me” (2-1). Previously, the pop/R&B star scored two top 10s: “In My Head” (No. 9, 2010) and “Talk Dirty” (No. 9, 2014).

On Dance Club Songs, Duke Dumont notches his fourth leader, “The Giver (Reprise)” (2-1). Dumont first dominated with “Need U (100%),” featuring A*M*E, on Aug. 24, 2013, then with “I Got U,” featuring Jax Jones (June 7, 2014), and “Won’t Look Back” (Oct. 25, 2014). Remixes from Tiga, Mark Ronson and Gingy & Bordello, among others, helped “Giver” go all the way.
Finally, Redfoo’s “Juicy Wiggle” rises to a new peak (47-27) on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs following a performance of the track on the May 19 season finale of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars (on which he was a contestant this season, although he was eliminated first; thus, his performance on the finale put a nicer cap on his time on the show). The track, which previously peaked at No. 35 upon its debut in early April 4, surges by 259 percent to 9,000 and re-enters Dance/Electronic Digital Songs at No. 11, also a new peak.
