Based on industry forecasts, “Forever” could sell between 175,000 and 200,000 downloads in its first week (ending Dec. 15; the song arrived at midnight on Dec. 9, so the tracking week covers its first seven days of availability). Such a sum should easily make “Forever” the best-selling song of the week.
The song is from Fifty Shades Darker, starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. The film, the follow-up to 2015’s Fifty Shades of Grey, hits theaters Feb. 10, the same day its soundtrack will be released.
Per Billboard projections according to preliminary Nielsen Music data, “Forever” should also draw more than 25 million in radio audience and more than 3 million U.S. streams for the week. Notably, no official video for the song has yet been released, and the track, while available on Apple Music, Tidal and other subscription-only streaming services, was withheld from Spotify during the tracking week, both of which will impede its chances for an even higher entrance on the Hot 100.
However, already looking ahead to the second chart week for “Forever” (on the Hot 100 dated Jan. 7, 2017), the song is now on Spotify as of Friday (Dec. 16), while a lyric video was released Dec. 15 on the official Fifty Shades YouTube channel.
As previously reported, “Forever” debuted on the Dec. 24-dated Pop Songs airplay chart, at No. 25, following its first three days of tracking. (The airplay chart tracking week runs Monday-Sunday, while sales and streaming data follows a Friday-Thursday period.)
