Zayn’s ‘Mind Of Mine’ On Course for U.K. No. 1

Zayn's debut is outpacing its nearest rival, Adele's "25", by more than 5,000 combined sales at the half-way point.

Zayn Malik’s Mind Of Mine (RCA) is heading for a No. 1 debut on the U.K. albums chart.

The former One Direction singer’s debut solo album was the best-seller at the midway stage of the chart week, according to the Official Charts Company, outpacing its nearest rival, Adele’s 25 (XL), by more than 5,000 combined sales.

Zayn is familiar with life in the chart penthouse. He score three U.K. No. 1 singles and three No. 1 albums with 1D, and Pillowtalk — his first single from Mind of Mine — became the fastest-selling single of the year so far en route to the chart crown in February.

New recordings by Joe Bonamassa, Birdy, Asking Alexandria, White Denim, Amon Amarth and Bob Mould are heading for high places on the new albums chart, which will be published Friday.

Meanwhile, Mike Posner is on track for a third week at the top of the Official Singles Chart with “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” (Seeb Remix via Island). It’s more than 10,000 combined sales ahead of the No. 2 track, Lukas Graham’s “7 Years” (Warner Bros), according to mid-week data.
