Zayn Malik's "Pillowtalk," his debut solo single, rocketed to No. 1 on Friday (Jan. 29), becoming Twitter's most shared and discussed track for 13 hours after its commercial release and music video.

Zayn Malik’s solo career has officially begun — and it’s taken him straight to the top of the real-time Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart.

“Pillowtalk,” Malik’s debut solo single after leaving One Direction, rocketed to No. 1 on the survey on Friday (Jan. 29), becoming Twitter’s most shared and discussed track for several hours upon its commercial release with an accompanying music video. The kaleidoscopic clip co-stars Malik’s girlfriend, model Gigi Hadid.

The Trending 140 chart measures the acceleration of conversation around artists and their music, while the Emerging Artists chart measures the volume of tweets around new artists and their songs.

The “Pillowtalk” buildup began before the single’s release at midnight ET, settling in at No. 1 around 9 p.m. ET on Jan. 28 and maintaining a lock on the position through 9 a.m. the following morning, a total of 13 consecutive hours in charge. Its release powered “Pillowtalk” to No. 1 for the first time since Zayn announced the track on Jan. 24.

“It’s all about sex,” Malik told the Sunday Times about “Pillowtalk.” “Everybody has sex, and it’s something people wanna hear about. It’s part of everybody’s life, a very big part of life.”

In his recent Billboard cover story, Malik also revealed three potential songs that may be included on Mind: “She,” “It’s You” and “Wrong.”
