After taking a breather this calendar year, the YouTube Music Awards are returning in 2015. YouTube announced on Thursday that the sophomore edition of the awards will take place in March, and will incorporate fans in creating new video collaborations between top artists and directors.
The awards, presented by Kia Motors and executive producer VICE Media, come right on the heels of the launch of the new subscription service YouTube Music Key. To kick off the celebration, YouTube has launched a new channel that will feature new videos from both established and emerging stars, including GD X TAEYANG and Megan Nicole in the coming week.
The first YouTube Music Awards, held in November 2013, were live-streamed from New York’s Pier 36 and featured concept-driven performances by Lady Gaga, Eminem and Arcade Fire. Creative director Spike Jonze helmed the spontaneous, fan-driven show which was notable for its all-around zaniness and attempts to create viral moments, like when co-hosts Jason Schwartzmann and Reggie Watts randomly held babies as they presented an award.
