California rockers Young the Giant return with a new, delightful single “Simplify,” their first musical release since the 2016 album Home of the Strange. The band also announced a set of new headlining fall tour dates.
With “Simplify,” Young the Giant bring fans the expansive, guitar-heavy sound they’ve loved since their self-titled debut in 2010. The Alex Salibian-produced track looks to the simple human need for eye contact as solace for these technologically influenced times. “Staring into your eyes, everything simplifies,” frontman Sameer Gadhia sings sweetly in the chorus.
Gadhia also explained the inspiration for the song in a statement. “Everything in modern life is complicated,” he said. “We construct images of how life should be lived: how to act, dress, tweet, and vote, and often times it is easy to lose your true self to the images we create for all to see,” he continued before explaining how love is at the root of everything.
“But love is simple, and to love someone is to love all of humanity. It is the closest thing to truth, and even though love can be compromising, painful, and exhausting, we can only see our truest selves in the eyes of another. This is the essence of ‘Simplify'”
In addition to the new song, the band’s upcoming tour dates follow their previously announced appearances at festivals this summer and fall. Young the Giant’s headlining tour begins October 25 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and will conclude on November 16 in Washington. LIGHTS will serve as the supporting act for these tour stops.
A fan pre-sale to purchase tickets for the upcoming shows will begin on June 18, followed by a sale to the general public on June 22. For more tour info and to purchase tickets, check out Young the Giant’s official website.
