Yandel’s ‘Quien Contra Mi 2’ Bows at No. 3 on Top Latin Albums Chart

It’s his first top 10 chart visit as a solo act since 2017.

Yandel returns to the top 10 on the Top Latin Albums chart as his solo album Quién Contra Mi 2 debuts at No. 3 on the Aug. 15 survey.

“It’s really exciting to see Quién Contra Mi 2 climbing the charts and to witness my fans support,” Yandel tells Billboard.  “Every album is special to me, but this one is extremely meaningful. I am thankful for all the collaborations and looking forward to seeing the evolution of this work.”

Quién Contra Mi 2 opens with 8,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Aug. 6, according to Nielsen Music/ MRC Data, mostly stemming from streaming activity. The 22-track set logged 7,000 SEA units in its first tracking week, that equates to 10 million on-demand audio streams for the songs on the album.

The Top Latin Albums chart ranks the most popular Latin albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Yandel was last in the top 10 as a soloist with 2017’s #Update, which debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the Sept. 30, 2017-dated list. He’s reached No. 1 as a solo act twice. (More recently, as one-half of the duo Wisin & Yandel, he was in the top 10 with the No. 2 arrival of Los Campeones Del Pueblo / The Big Leagues, back in December of 2018.)

Quien Contra Mi 2 was released July 31 via Yandel’s label Y Entertainment and Sony Music Latin. The set includes a host of collaborators, including Ruben Blades, J Balvin, Arcangel, Nicky Jam, Ozuna, Farruko and Natti Natasha. Snoop Dogg is also featured on the album and is the only guest on the set that traditionally records in English.

As Quien 2 arrives on the chart, two of the album’s cuts debut on Hot Latin Songs, which blends airplay, digital sales and streaming data: “No Te Vayas,” featuring J Balvin (No. 49) and “Por Mi Reggae Muero 2020” (No. 50).  “No Te Vayas” was Yandel’s most-streamed song during the album’s first week, with 1.5 million U.S. streams in the week ending Aug. 6.

The two new arrivals push Yandel to 32 career entries on Hot Latin Songs.

Quien 2 concurrently bows at No. 3 on Latin Rhythm Albums, his seventh straight top 10 there.
