On June 18, his combined album and digital song sales grew to 33,000 copies sold — up 1,603 percent from 2,000 sold on June 17. His biggest-selling song on June 18 was “Sad!,” with 6,000 sold — up 1,143 percent compared to its sales a day earlier (just under 1,000).
“Sad!” was the controversial artist’s only top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during his lifetime, peaking at No. 7 on the March 31-dated list. The song is housed on XXXTentacion’s ? album, which debuted atop the Billboard 200 that same week, marking his first chart-topper.
Industry forecasters expect the album to return to the top 10 on next week’s Billboard 200 chart (dated June 30), with more than 45,000 units earned in the week ending June 21. On the current chart (dated June 23, reflecting the tracking week ending June 14), the set stood at No. 24 with 19,000 units earned, according to Nielsen Music.
XXXTentacion made his Billboard chart debut in February 2017 and collected 16 hits on the Hot 100 and three entries on the Billboard 200. However, his chart success was concurrent with persistent legal trouble. At the time of his death, he was awaiting trial on more than a dozen felony charges and allegations of domestic violence against his then-pregnant girlfriend.
