XXXTentacion (Jahseh Onfroy) will be released from jail and confined to house arrest today, his lawyer has confirmed to TMZ. The controversial Florida rapper returned to jail last week, facing a total of 15 new felony counts of witness tampering and witness harassment related to his ongoing domestic violence case.
The terms of the house arrest reportedly permit XXXTentacion to leave in order to “fulfill his contractual obligations,” including visiting a recording studio. He is forbidden from contacting victims or witnesses connected to the case. The house arrest is set to last 60 days, after which his lawyer says he intends to seek release on bond.
In the underlying case, XXXTentacion stands accused of aggravated battery against a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, and false imprisonment. His trial, originally scheduled to begin this month, has been delayed. Prosecutors have said they intend to ask the court to divide the case in two, separating the domestic violence charges from the witness tampering charges, which are the more serious under Florida law.
Billboard reached out to the XXXTentacion‘s management for comment.
