Wiggle, Wiggle, Wiggle: Millions of Wiggles Coins Will be Distributed Next Month
The legendary Aussie children’s entertainers are set to appear in a special set of coins, pressed by the Australian Royal Mint and featuring the cheery foursome.
If you’ve already got the records, the lunchbox, and the skivvies (in all four colors), there’s a new round of Wiggles merch that’d jangle in your back pocket.
The legendary Aussie children’s entertainers are set to appear in a special set of coins, pressed by the Australian Royal Mint and decorated with the cheery foursome and their friends.
To mark their 30th anniversary, eight million Wiggles coins will be distributed through Australia’s Woolworths grocery chain from next month.
The first of four $2 coins will roll out each week from Oct. 6, starting with Captain Feathersword, then Henry the Octopus (on Oct. 13), Wags the Dog (Oct. 20) and Dorothy the Dinosaur (Oct. 27).
Two commemorative $1 coins will also be released.
It’s only a matter of time before Australians’ wallets are wiggling.
Also, a two-coin set is available in a 30-cent denomination, packaged in a special jukebox-shaped tin, and available only from the Mint for A$40.
Fun fact: there’s no 30-cent coin in the Australian currency, which makes the commemorative edition such a hot potato.
Formed in Sydney back in 1991, the band has sold more than 30 million albums and DVDs worldwide, and their TV shows are broadcast in more than 100 countries.
In 2005, the Wiggles became the first entertainers to win the Australian government’s Exporter Of the Year award and, in 2011, the year of their 20th anniversary, the band was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
Earlier this year, The Wiggles signed with Universal Music Publishing Group for their first exclusive, global publishing deal.
