Chris Tomlin banks his 10th No. 1 on Billboard‘s Christian Airplay chart, and featured group Lady A lands its first, as “Who You Are to Me” ascends 2-1 on the survey dated Oct. 24.
In the tracking week ending Oct. 18, the song increased by 12% to 10 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
The song is the first single from Chris Tomlin & Friends, which opened at No. 1 on Top Christian Albums in August with 12,000 equivalent album units, becoming the singer-songwriter’s eighth leader. The 13-track LP features collaborations with both Christian and country artists, including Russell Dickerson (“Together”), Florida Georgia Line (“Forever Home”), Needtobreathe’s Bear Rinehart (“Power”) and RaeLynn (“Chase Me Down”).
Tomlin wrote “Who You Are” with all three members of Lady A: Dave Haywood, Charles Kelley and Hillary Scott.
“When Hillary, Dave, Charles and I sat down to write, ‘Who You Are to Me’ basically wrote itself,” Tomlin tells Billboard. “Now seeing how the song has grown so quickly and how it is impacting lives, it is clear that this is one of those God songs. Personally, this song is so meaningful for me and I am so grateful to radio for the love and support.”
Tomlin last led Christian Airplay for three weeks in June 2017 with “Home.” His run of No. 1s began in April 2006 with “How Great Is Our God.” With 10 topping tracks, Tomlin ties Jeremy Camp for the lead among soloists, and the third-best sum overall, on the 2003-launched survey. Among all acts, MercyMe ranks first with 17 No. 1s, followed by Casting Crowns with 11.
While “Who You Are to Me” is the maiden Christian Airplay entry for Lady A, Hillary Scott & The Scott Family’s Love Remains debuted at No. 1 on Top Christian Albums in August 2016. Lead single “Thy Will” ruled the airplay-, streaming- and sales-powered Hot Christian Songs chart for 15 weeks and Christian Airplay for three frames.
Over on Lady A’s home turf, the act’s latest single “Champagne Night” climbs 16-15 on Country Airplay (12.5 million impressions, up 3%) and bullets at No. 23 on Hot Country Songs.
With Lady A boasting 10 career No. 1s on Country Airplay, the trio becomes the first group and second act overall to have topped both that chart and Country Airplay.
Dolly Parton founded the club just last month when “There Was Jesus,” with Zach Williams, hit No. 1 on Christian Airplay, marking her first leader on the list to go along with two on Country Airplay (which began in 1991).
Plus, thanks to “Thy Will” and now “Who You Are to Me,” Scott is the first artist to have led Christian Airplay via two separate groups (Hillary Scott & The Scott Family and Lady A).
