The self-titled set, released on the Fuller Beans label by their family and friends, went straight to the top of the new chart today. “Cold Water” (Because Music), by electronic outfit Major Lazer featuring Justin Bieber and MØ, started a second week atop the singles chart.
The new Official Charts Company data had Viola Beach new at the top as the track “Swings and Waterslides” debuts on the singles chart at No. 11. Last week’s No. 1, ELO’s All Over The World compilation (Epic/Sony), fell to No. 2 as Christine & the Queens’ Chaleur Humaine dipped 2-3. Drake stayed at No. 4 with Views (Cash Money/Republic/ Universal and Adele fell 4-5 with 25 (XL Recordings).
New Orleans-born producer DJ Khaled’s ninth studio set Major Key (Black Butter/We The Best) debuted at No. 7, his first U.K. top 100 album; his single “For Free,” featuring Drake, reached No. 25 in the territory in June. “Cold Water” recorded 104,000 chart equivalent sales in its second week, to add to its initial total of 102,000. An even greater proportion than in the previous week came from streams, at 6.54m compared to 39,000 download sales. ?Calum Scott’s “Dancing On My Own” (Instrumental) rose a place for a new peak of No. 2 in its 16th chart week, changing places with “Perfect Strangers” (Positiva/Universal) by Jonas Blue featuring J.P. Cooper at No. 3. The Chainsmokers’ “Don’t Let Me Down” ft. Daya (Disruptor) was unmoved at No. 4, as was Drake’s former 15-week chart champion “One Dance,” featuring Wizkid & Kyla, at No. 5.
