Dominican artist Vicente Garcia scores his first top 10 on the Tropical Songs airplay chart dated Feb. 9 as “Loma de Cayenas,” with Juan Luis Guerra, hops 11-9 in its third frame. The tune advances with a 24 percent increase in audience (to 1 million) in the week ending Feb. 3, according to Nielsen Music.
“I am extremely happy that ‘Loma de Cayenas’ reached the top 10 on Tropical Songs Airplay,” Garcia tells Billboard. “This is a song in which I explored new fusions and rhythms, as well as having the opportunity of working with Juan Luis Guerra, who has been my biggest influence.”
“Loma” bests Garcia’s previous peak with “Carmesí,” which debuted at No. 15 on the Jan. 21, 2017-dated chart.
Guerra, meanwhile, ups his career count of top 10s to 18. He earned his first top 10 when “El Beso De La Ciguatera” peaked at No. 6 in 1995. Since then, he has logged 11 No. 1s including “Las Avispas,” his longest charting title atop the list (10 weeks in 2004).
Right below, Elvis Crespo’s “Ella Me Beso” moves 16-10 in its second frame. The song ascends with a lofty 72 percent increase in audience (to 1 million).
“Ella” gives Crespo his 32nd top 10, and first without a collaborator since 2011 when “La Novia Bella” hit No. 7. In between, he tallied 11 top 10s alongside others. Crespo continues to hold the fifth-most top 10 record on the tally, trailing Victor Manuelle (with 58), Marc Anthony (46), Gilberto Santa Rosa (35) and Daddy Yankee (33).
