Vevo, the music video platform founded in 2009 in partnership with Google Abu Dhabi Media, Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment, today released a statistical milestone: 10 billion monthly views. Actually, 10,335,997,898. The company claims an 86% increase in viewership during the same month last year.
Artists’ Vevo channels are high-ranked in the YouTube ecosystem, with Rihanna’s account in the highest rank at No. 11, with 15.3 million subscribers.
The metrics are good news for a company which had a tumultuous year behind the scenes. Rumors of a possible sale began percolating last year, before those talks fell through. Their negotiations with Snapchat, revealed amidst the Sony Pictures Entertainment leaks that dominated headlines in December, also fell through. The beleagured nature of the service in general seemed to culminate in the departure of CEO Rio Caraeff at the end of last year. Alan Price is serving as acting CEO in his stead.
