Vance Joy may be best known for last year’s inescapable single “Riptide,” but it’s with another song off his 2014 debut album that the Aussie snags his first Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart No. 1.
“Fire and the Flood,” the third single from Dream Your Life Away, rises 3-1 on Adult Alternative Songs (dated Dec. 26), marking his first chart-topper at the format. His first two singles each reached the top 10: “Riptide” (No. 7) and follow-up “Mess Is Mine” (No. 4).
“Flood” concurrently makes waves on Alternative Songs, where it swells 11-6. It’s also his third top 10 on the airplay tally: “Riptide” spent five weeks at No. 1, while “Mess” reached No. 6.
Released in September 2014, Dream Your Life Away hit No. 2 on both Alternative Albums and Folk Albums. It has sold 260,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen Music. “Riptide” also crossed to pop formats, hitting No. 7 on Adult Pop Songs and No. 18 on Pop Songs, helping spark its No. 30 peak in a 44-week run on the Billboard Hot 100.
