Vance Joy Tops Adult Alternative Songs Chart With ‘Lay It on Me’

The singer-songwriter's second No. 1 follows 2015's "Fire and the Flood."

Vance Joy reaches No. 1 on Billboard‘s Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart for the second time, as “Lay It on Me” rises 3-1 on the Sept. 30-dated tally.

The song is Joy’s second chart-topper in a row. Previously, “Fire and the Flood,” the third single from the Australian singer-songwriter’s 2014 debut Dream Your Life Away, ruled for two weeks, beginning on the ranking dated Dec. 26, 2015.

Thus far, each of Joy’s four charting titles on Adult Alternative Songs has made the top 10, dating back to “Riptide” (No. 7, March 2014) and “Mess Is Mine” (No. 4, May 2015).

“Lay It on Me” also attains a new peak of No. 8 on Alternative Songs (where each of Joy’s first four charting singles has also hit the top 10) and ranks at No. 10 on the all-rock-genre Rock Airplay chart, with 5.6 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music.

“Lay It on Me” is the lead single from the 29-year-old’s sophomore effort, which does not yet have an announced release date or title. Dream Your Life Away debuted and peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 on Americana/Folk Albums; it’s appeared on the latter list for 111 weeks and counting.
