Up10tion Debut on Social 50 Following Release of New Album ‘The Moment of Illusion’

After Up10tion members Kim Wooseok and Lee Jinhyuk participated in 'Produce X 101,' the group debuts on Social 50 chart.

Four years after Up10tion debuted on the K-pop scene, the boy band enters the Social 50 chart thanks to a new album and increased attention following their members’ participation on a popular TV show.

Up10tion debuts at No. 32 on Billboard‘s Social 50 chart dated Sept. 7, 2019. The 10-member boy band saw a majority of their activity coming from Twitter for the tracking week of Aug. 23-29, scoring 161,000 Twitter reactions and 75,000 Twitter mentions to bow on the ranking. The Social 50 is powered by data tracked by music analytics company Next Big Sound and ranks the most popular artists on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Wikipedia. The chart’s methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers with artist page views and engagement.


Up10tion released their new EP, The Moment of Illusion, on Aug. 22 which marked the band’s first new music of 2019 as well as their first release since earning increased attention after members Kim Wooseok and Lee Jinhyuk competed on Korea’s boy-band singing competition show Produce X 101. The popular program created created X1, the band who is currently at No. 2 on the Social 50 and sent their debut album and single to various Billboard charts this week, with both Wooseok and Jinhyuk developing a strong fanbase on the show.

Wooseok landed himself a coveted spot in the final 11-member lineup of X1 and Jinhyuk was announced to be working on a solo album. At the same time the two competed on the show, the remaining eight Up10tion members were preparing Moment of Illusion meaning the group would promote with just eight members for this release.

Undoubtedly, there’s a definite synergy between with the two gropus with a group photo combining the 19 singers uploaded to Up10tion’s account that earned tens of thousands of reactions. Jinhyuk also uploaded videos and photos of him meeting with his members to his Instagram page earning hundreds of thousands of likes.

To date, Up10tion has entered one other Billboard chart when their single “Going Crazy” hit No. 22 on the World Digital Song Sales chart in late November 2017. While Up10tion’s music did not bow on any charts this release, the increased social attention indicates a growing interest and following in the band and could certainly lead to future Billboard successes.
