Universal Music Group (UMG) kicked off its new “Use Your Voice” voter education and mobilization campaign on Thursday (Aug. 20) with an “hour of action” virtual canvassing event, during which the record company says that its employees reached more than 200,000 people.
Use Your Voice is organized with UMG’s new Task Force for Meaningful Change, and the “hour of action” was held in partnership with UMG’s °1824 college marketing division and the nonprofit When We All Vote, which aims to increase participation in every election by changing the culture around voting. During the hour-long event, more than 150 U.S. employees, artists and partners — including The Jonas Brothers and Interscope Geffen A&M executive vp Joie Manda — paused their normal work activities to engage in voter education and mobilization activities, reaching out to friends, family and social media followers.
The When We All Vote partnership also includes content creation, including voter education videos from artists like 2 Chainz (available here) and Norah Jones, with more to come over the next 74 days leading up to the U.S. general election. The campaign is part of UMG’s ongoing efforts to support social justice causes. In addition to its Task Force announced in June — which will promote equality within UMG, the music community and beyond — UMG also committed $25 million to a “Change Fund,” which will include donations to organizations which support a wide range of social justice and equality-focused causes.
