Two Feet’s “I Feel Like I’m Drowning” rises 3-1 on Billboard‘s Alternative Songs airplay chart dated July 7, marking the latest leader by a rookie artist in 2018.
Two Feet, the stage name of New York’s Bill Dess, becomes the fifth act in a lead role to top Alternative Songs this year for the first time. Four, including Two Feet, have led with their first charting song, with lovelytheband (“Broken”), AJR (“Sober Up”) and Alice Merton (“No Roots”) previously achieving the feat. Meanwhile, Panic! at the Disco topped Alternative Songs for the first time but not with its first chart entry, as, a week ago, “Say Amen (Saturday Night)” became the band’s first No. 1 after more than 12 years of appearing on the survey.
While five artists have hit No. 1 for the first time on Alternative Songs through roughly half of 2018, four did so in all of 2017. In 2016, five acts earned their first No. 1s.
“Drowning” also becomes Two Feet’s first No. 1 on any Billboard chart. The act first made a Billboard ranking when “Go Fuck Yourself” debuted at No. 48 on the Hot Rock Songs ranking dated Dec. 23, 2017.
“Drowning” concurrently holds at its No. 5 peak on the all-rock-format Rock Airplay chart with 9 million audience impressions in the week ending July 1, according to Nielsen Music. It’s also bubbling under Adult Alternative Songs.
