TWICE can certainly take the title of their new single and album to heart as the K-pop girl groups earns a slew of chart accolades with their latest release.
First up, the nine-member act scores their second No. 1 on Billboard‘s World Digital Song Sales chart as “Feel Special” after 2,000 copies sold in the week ending Sept. 26, according to Nielsen Music. Before this week, TWICE had previously hit the top spot in 2017 with “Likey,” which ruled the chart for two weeks. The group is now just the seventh K-pop act to score multiple chart-toppers on World Digtial Song Sales.
“Feel Special” is also stretching TWICE’s dominance across North America as the single also enters the Canadian Hot 100 chart at No. 82. This is the group’s first time entering Canada’s all-genre singles chart, making them just the third K-pop girl group, and ninth K-pop act overall, to do so.
Over on the albums charts, TWICE’s Feel Special EP sold 1,000 copies in the week ending Sept. 26, landing them at No. 6 on World Albums and No. 10 on Heatseekers Albums charts. While these aren’t the band’s highest marks on either chart, this does mark the group’s best sales week yet in America, just edging out the debut of the band’s Fancy You EP from May which had earned them another new best sales week.
No doubt this release holds a special place to both TWICE and their fans as the sentimental message of moving past negativity and hurtful words shines throughout this sparkly dance track. Fans likely also were drawn to the lyrics that seemed particularly apt to member Mina, who sings translated lines like “I just wanted to hide /Didn’t wanna face the world /As if everything has lost meaning,” after the 22-year-old recently revealed a battle with anxiety and “insecurity towards performing on stage,” according to her record label JYP Entertainment. Those uplifting messages are felt throughout the whole EP as the group delivers encouraging and heartfelt messages about moving forward in life. All throughout, the EP marks some of the group’s most pristinely produced songs yet, seeing them evolve into artists consistently putting out top-quality and sophisticated pop.
