Twenty One Pilots’ Trench’ Rules Top Rock Albums, Entire Set Hits Top 25 of Hot Rock Songs Chart

The duo's fifth album draws the duo's biggest single-week unit count.

The entirety of twenty one pilots‘ new album Trench storms Billboard‘s Hot Rock Songs chart as the set launches at No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums and Alternative Albums charts dated Oct. 20.

Trench starts atop both lists with 175,000 equivalent album units earned, according to Nielsen Music. That exceeds the 147,000-unit debut of 2015’s Blurryface, giving twenty one pilots their best single-week unit count. The new set is the duo’s second No. 1 on each list, after Blurryface led Top Rock Albums for nine weeks and Alternative Albums for 21, the latter the second-most atop the ranking in its history, trailing only Imagine DragonsEvolve (32).

Five Trench tracks occupy the Hot Rock Songs top 10, the first time that feat has been accomplished not by virtue of an artist’s passing; previously, Linkin Park, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince and David Bowie each claimed at least half the top 10 following the deaths of Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington, Petty, Prince and Bowie. They’re paced by lead Trench single “Jumpsuit,” which vaults back to its No. 6 peak, first reached on the July 21-dated list.

All 14 songs from Trench chart in the Hot Rock Songs top 25, also a record among artists who accomplished the feat not following an artist’s passing; Linkin Park holds the records for the most concurrent top 10s (seven) and top 25 entries (18).

Trench songs occupy 11 of the 25 spots on Rock Streaming Songs, led by current single “My Blood,” which re-enters at No. 5 (7.2 million streams, up 5 percent). The only acts to exceed that amount in a single week, Bowie and Linkin Park, did so following the deaths of Bowie and Bennington, respectively.

After “Jumpsuit” held the No. 1 spot on the Alternative Songs airplay chart for three weeks beginning July 28, “Blood” rises 7-6. On the all-rock-format Rock Airplay chart, “Blood” enters the top 10 (12-10, 6.5 million audience impressions).
