Twenty One Pilots Tie Record for Most Rock & Alternative Airplay Top 10s

'The Outside' becomes the duo's 13th top 10 hit on the chart.

With their 13th top 10 on Billboard‘s Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, Twenty One Pilots tie Cage the Elephant and Foo Fighters for the most top 10s in the ranking’s 12-year history.

“The Outside,” the latest single from Twenty One Pilots’ 2021 album Scaled and Icy, shoots 15-8 on the chart dated Dec. 18 with 2.5 million audience impressions, up 20%, according to MRC Data.

The duo first hit the Rock & Alternative Airplay top 10 with the No. 2-peaking “Tear in My Heart” in 2015, and each of its singles (excluding holiday fare) has since reached the region.

“The Outside” concurrently zooms 9-4 on the spins-based Alternative Airplay chart, having become the act’s 15th top 10 on the tally, dating to its first, “Holding On to You,” in 2013.

On the multi-metric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs survey, “The Outside” charts for a fifth week, after reaching No. 28 upon its debut in June. In addition to its radio airplay, the song earned 538,000 U.S. streams in the Dec. 3-9 tracking week.

“The Outside” is the third single from Scaled and Icy, Twenty One Pilots’ sixth studio album, following “Shy Away” and “Saturday,” both of which ruled Alternative Airplay for multiple weeks. The set debuted at No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums charts dated June 5 and has earned 400,000 equivalent album units to date.
