Cynthia Erivo has signed to Verve Records with plans to enter the studio in 2019 to record a new album.

Cynthia Erivo has signed to Verve Records with plans to enter the studio in 2019 to record a new album.

Erivo, the Tony-, Emmy- and Grammy-winning singer and actress, is best known for her role as Celie in The Color Purple, for which she won the Tony for best actress in a musical in 2016.

She is currently starring in both Widows, opposite Viola Davis, and Bad Times at the El Royale, co-starring with Jeff Bridges and Chris Hemsworth.

In addition to logging time in the recording studio in 2019, Erivo will be seen starring alongside Daisy Ridley and David Oyelowo in the sci-fi thriller Chaos Walking, from director Doug Liman. She also recently wrapped production on John Ridley’s Needle in a Timestack, where she will star alongside Orlando Bloom, Freida Pinto and Leslie Odom Jr., as well as  Kasi Lemmons’ Harriet, about Harriet Tubman. 

Erivo is also an accomplished songwriter, having written the song “Fly Before You Fall” for 2014’s Beyond the Lights.

She joins a roster that includes Diana Krall, Andrea Bocelli, J.S. Ondara, Jon Batiste, Tank and the Bangas, Yuna, Blake Mills, Shabaka Hutchings, Madison Cunningham, Max Richter, Daniil Trifonov and Lang Lang.
