Tones And I’s global hit this week extends its record-smashing streak atop the ARIA Singles Chart to 23 non-consecutive cycles. That’s well ahead of the previous record-holder, Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You” which ruled the survey for 15 non-consecutive weeks.
“Dance Monkey” bowed at No. 1 on ARIA’s Australian Artist Singles Chart for 2019 and at No. 10 on the chart for the full decade.
Meanwhile, Tones’ latest single “Never Seen the Rain” slips 8-9 for an 11th week inside the top ten, while her debut EP The Kids Are Coming improves 7-6 on the national albums survey.
The top five this week is completed by Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now” (holding at No. 2, via Warner UK), The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” (up 7-3, via Republic/Universal), Arizona Zervas’ “ROXANNE” (down 3-4, via Columbia/Sony) and Post Malone’s “Circles” (unchanged at No. 5, via Republic/Universal), while Justin Bieber gobbles up the highest debut chart position with “Yummy” (Def Jam/Universal), new at No. 8.
It’s Bieber’s first entry as a lead artist on the ARIA Singles Chart since “Friends” opened at No. 2 in August 2017, and it’s his eighth top ten chart entry as a solo artist. The Canadian pop singer also appears down the chart as featured vocalist on Dan + Shay’s “10,000 Hours” (Universal/Warner), down 21-24, and alongside Ed Sheeran on “I Don’t Care” (Universal/Warner), dipping 30-35.
Impacting the chart for the first time this week is Roddy Ricch’s “The Box” (Atlantic/Warner) at No. 18. The California rapper also scores the highest new entry on the national albums chart, with Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial at No. 33.
Meanwhile, Brockhampton crack the Top 40 for the first time with “Sugar” (RCA/Sony), the U.S. hip-hop collective’s latest single from their fifth studio album Ginger. It’s new at No. 37.
Over on the ARIA Albums Chart, Harry Styles’ Fine Line (Columbia/Sony) bags a third non-consecutive week at the top.
