McGraw performed the ballad at the 51st Annual Academy of Country Music Awards on April 3, 2016, with a string section, recreating the uplifting vibe of the studio recording.
The song surged by 69% to 64,000 sold and 26% to 2.1 million U.S. streams in the tracking week ending April 7, according to MRC Data, sparking its chart coronation.
Lori McKenna solo-penned the song and told Billboard in 2018, “I still see it as this simple song. My youngest was 10 at the time, [so] you think of all the things you repeat over and over to little kids, like ‘hold the door, say please …’ There’s so much simplicity in that song, I saw it as such as a little prayer for them to carry around. When Tim McGraw got it … he had the ability and talent to make it into such a big moment.”
