Thom Yorke Earns First No. 1 on Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart with ‘Anima’
Plus, moves for DJ Snake, Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber, Lizzo, David Guetta and Madonna.
Thom Yorke re-enters Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart (dated August 3) at No. 1 with Anima, following its physical release. The set earned a best-yet 10,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending July 25, nearly all from traditional sales, according to Nielsen Music.
The sum also nets Yorke a second week at No. 1 on the Dance/Electronic Album Sales chart, after a week at the top on July 13 (3-1).
After its June 27 digital/streaming-only release, Anima debuted on Top Dance/Electronic Albums at No. 10, with 4,000 units, on the July 6-dated chart, and climbed to No. 5 the following week, July 13, with 6,000 units.
Anima is Yorke’s first No. 1 and third chart hit, after The Eraser Rmxs (No. 13, 2009) and Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes (No. 13, 2015). Also, as a member of Radiohead, Yorke charted with TKOL RMX 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 (No. 5, 2011).
Yorke also captured his first hit on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with an Anima track, “Traffic” (No. 47, July 13).
Additionally on Top Dance/Electronic Albums, DJ Snake slithers in at No. 4 with Carte Blanche, earning 5,000 units in the week ending July 25. The set debuts following a partial week of activity after the album’s off-cycle release on Thursday, July 25 (instead of on a Friday, when most albums are released, ensuring that it would get a full seven days of tracking in its debut week).
Blanche follows Snake’s debut, Encore, which debuted at No. 1 on August 27, 2016, and remained at the top for a second frame.
On Dance/Mix Show Airplay, Ed Sheeran scores his second No. 1, and Justin Bieber bags his fifth with their collaborative hit “I Don’t Care” (4-1). Sheeran spent six weeks atop the chart in 2017 with “Shape Of You,” while Bieber’s former toppers are “As Long As You Love Me” (featuring Big Sean, 2012), “What Do You Mean?” (four weeks at No. 1, 2015), “Sorry” (three weeks, 2016), and “Despacito” (Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Bieber, seven weeks, 2017).
Plus, Lizzo lifts to her first top 10 with her second chart hit, “Truth Hurts” (12-8). Lizzo reached No. 26 on May 25 with “Juice.”
Meanwhile, on Dance Club Songs, David Guetta grabs his 14th No. 1 with “Stay (Don’t Go Away),” featuring Raye, who earns her first (2-1). The French DJ/producer ties Dave Aude, Enrique Iglesias, and Pitbull as the male solo acts with the most No. 1s in the chart’s history, since its August 1976 inception. “Stay” was remixed by Guetta and R3HAB, Nicky Romero and Mark Knight, among others.
Three weeks ago, the track also became Guetta’s eighth topper on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart.
Also on Dance Club Songs, Madonna rockets to her record-extending 62nd top 10 (Rihanna is next with 37) with “I Rise” (18-10). The second chart hit from Billboard 200 No. 1 Madame X, “Rise” was remixed by Tracy Young and Offer Nissim, among others. Madonna, with Maluma, earned her leading 47th No. 1 on June 29 with “Medellin.”
