The War on Drugs Signs With Atlantic Records
The beloved Philadelphia band has a two-album deal with the Warner Music Group label.
The War on Drugs, the beloved Philadelphia indie rock band whose last studio effort, Lost in the Dream, was deemed the most critically acclaimed album of 2014, has joined the Atlantic Records roster.
A June 4 article in the Wall Street Journal noted that the group fronted by Adam Granduciel had signed a two-album deal with the Warner Music Group label. They were previously signed to Indiana indie Secretly Canadian, which counts Animal Collective and Yeasayer on its roster.

Lost in the Dream, the band’s third album since forming in 2005, peaked at No. 4 on Billboard‘s Independent Albums chart and at No. 6 on Alternative Albums. It received widespread acclaim for its throwback vibe and nods to the Americana sounds of 1980s Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, with a touch of Bob Dylan thrown in for good measure.
Apple’s Jimmy Iovine recently called the band “fantastic,” telling Billboard, “They should be gigantic.”
