The Lumineers Hit $10 Million & Counting on III: The World Tour

The Lumineers hit career bests in Chicago and New York as their 2019-20 world tour crosses $10 million.

The Lumineers storm the Feb. 29-dated Hot Tours recap (see below) at No. 2 with reports for eight North American shows on III: The World Tour. According to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, the recent shows earned $5.6 million and sold 93,882 tickets.

The band came stateside after 17 European shows in November and are posting career-best numbers. Their double-headers at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill. (Feb. 21-22) and Brooklyn’s Barclays Center (Feb. 13-14) highlight the domestic run at Nos. 11 and 14 on the Current Boxscore chart, respectively.

The Chicago-area shows ($1.7 million gross) and the Brooklyn gigs ($1.6 million), making them the second and third-highest earning engagements of the band’s career. Their biggest figures were from a three-show run at the Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre in Englewood, Colo. in 2016. When averaged out for a per-night gross, the band’s 2020 shows are their biggest ever.

So far, the band’s 14 U.S. shows in 2020 have totaled $8.9 million and 150,943 tickets sold. Adding in a sprinkling of international reports from the 2019 leg, The Lumineers have grossed $10.2 and sold nearly 180,000 tickets on III: The World Tour. The trek lasts throughout much of 2020, with 43 North American dates and a handful of international shows still on the books.

III: The World Tour is an apt name, as it follows The Lumineers World Tour (2012-13) and Cleopatra World Tour (2016-17) as the band’s third world tour (it also shares a name with the band’s 2019 album III). But despite a smaller presence on the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100, their momentum on the road continues to grow. The average per-night gross has grown from $141,000 in 2012-13 tour to $356,000 in 2016-17, and now to $568,000. Similarly, the group is selling more tickets each show, leaping from 4,033 on their first tour to 10,782 in 2020. With 50 shows left to report in 2020, III: The World Tour is headed toward a $35-million-plus finish.
