The Cinematic Orchestra Rules Top TV Songs Chart for January 2018

British electronic jazz group The Cinematic Orchestra rules THR’s Top TV Songs chart, powered by Tunefind and Shazam, for January, as “To Build A Home” hits No. 1 on the tally for the second time. The song leads the chart thanks to its appearance in NBC’s This Us Us.

Rankings for the Top TV Songs chart are based on song and show data provided by Tunefind, and ranked using a formula blending respective Shazam tags, as well as sales and streaming information tracked by Nielsen Music during the corresponding period.

“To Build A Home” previously lead the June 2017 chart, following its appearance in the fifth season of Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black. The Cinematic Orchestra is just the third act to ever lead the Top TV Songs chart more than once: Kaleo has lead the chart on two occasions, both with “Way Down We Go,” and Lord Huron has lead the chart three times — one with “Fool For Love” and twice with “The Night We Met.”

“To Build A Home,” which the group released in 2007, leads all charting songs with 49,000 Shazam tags, 6,000 downloads sold and 3.5 million U.S. streams in January, according to Nielsen Music.

Thanks to the song’s appearance, the track spent one week on the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart at No. 16 on the Feb. 3-dated tally.

Elsewhere on the Top TV Songs chart, four songs from Netflix’s new hit show The End of the F**king World debut. Soko’s “We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow” debuts the highest at No. 5, followed by Bernadette Carroll’s “Laughing on the Outside” at No. 6.

“We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow” earns its debut with 28,000 Shazam tags, 1,000 downloads sold and 999,000 U.S. streams in January.

“We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow” also marks a triumphant return for Soko. The track is the singer’s only solo charting single, and reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 3 on the Hot Rock Songs chart in March 2014.

Carroll’s “Laughing on the Outside” also arrives with 16,000 Shazam tags, 2,000 downloads sold and 1.5 million U.S. streams.

The song marks Carroll’s second-ever solo appearance on a Billboard chart. After leaving The Angels in the early 1960s, Carroll reached No. 47 on the Hot 100 in June 1964 with “Party Girl.” She was also a member of The Angels, and the group earned six charting entries on the Hot 100 — most notably, “My Boyfriend’s Back,” which ruled the chart for three weeks beginning on Aug. 31, 1963.

Graham Coxon’s “Walking All Day” and Ricky Nelson’s “Lonesome Town” also debut on the chart, thanks to The End of the F**king World, at Nos. 9 and 10, respectively.
