The Beach Boys Score First No. 1 on Classical Albums Chart With Royal Philharmonic

The Beach Boys have gone classical, as the veteran pop/rock band scores its first No. 1 on both the Classical Albums and Classical Crossover Albums charts, as The Beach Boys With the Royal Philharmonic bows atop both tallies (dated June 23).

The album starts with 5,000 copies sold in the week ending June 14, according to Nielsen Music.

The new set blends The Beach Boys’ original recordings of such hits as “California Girls,” “Kokomo” and “Good Vibrations” with new orchestral accompaniment from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

While this is the first No. 1 on both charts for The Beach Boys, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is a frequent visitor to the tallies. The ensemble has collected four top 10s on both lists in the past year, thanks to collaborations with The Beach Boys, Aretha Franklin (A Brand New Me), Roy Orbison (A Love So Beautiful) and Elvis Presley (Elvis Christmas With the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra).
