Taylor Swift Tops Artist 100, Fabolous Debuts

Swift remains far ahead of all competition, while Fabolous bows thanks to sales of his new album.

Taylor Swift continues to distance herself from the pack atop the Billboard Artist 100 chart, logging a record-extending 11th week at No. 1. Meanwhile, rapper Fabolous scores the chart’s top debut.

The Artist 100 provides the first weekly ranking dedicated to measuring artist activity across Billboard‘s most influential charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, Top Album Sales and the Social 50. The Artist 100 blends data measuring album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.


Swift (up 16 percent) holds a nearly 3-to-1 lead in points over runner-up Nicki Minaj (2-2), after Swift led by a nearly 2-to-1 margin last week. Album sales again account for the majority of Swift’s Artist 100 rank (41 percent). Her album 1989 logs for a seventh week atop the Billboard 200 with 430,000 total album equivalent units (with 326,000 from pure album sales), according to Nielsen Music.

Digital song sales follow, with 34 percent of Swift’s Artist 100 points. Her current single, “Blank Space,” rules the Hot 100 for a seventh week, having sold 503,000 downloads in the week ending Dec. 28, marking the 12th-best digital sales frame ever for a song.

Below Minaj, Meghan Trainor (6-3), Ed Sheeran (3-4) and Sam Smith (5-5) round out the Artist 100’s top five.

Also notably, Fabolous flies in at No. 43. He starts with 93 percent of his chart activity from album sales, as The Young OG Project enters the Billboard 200 at No. 12 (as the highest of only two debuts, as few releases arrive as late as Christmas week each year). The set, his first Billboard 200 entry in more than four years, starts with 71,000 units (and begins at No. 3 on Top Rap Albums).
