As her massive Reputation Stadium Tour travels through the US, Taylor Swift is adding six new sales milestones to her already impressive resume. Big Machine Label Group President Scott Borchetta surprised the pop powerhouse backstage at one of her three consecutive stadium-packed concerts at MetLife Stadium to present Swift with the honors.
Of the most impressive, Swift’s 2008 second studio album Fearless received an official Diamond plaque by the RIAA. Originally certified Diamond in December of 2017, the rare Diamond status means that the country album has achieved sales and streams exceeding 10 million equivalent album units. One equivalent album unit, as recognized by the RIAA, is equal to: one album sale, 10 tracks sold from an album, or 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video streams from an album. The RIAA revamped its Gold & Platinum Awards Program on Feb. 1, 2016, growing from a pure album sales certification process to one that includes tracks and streams. The album went on to win Album Of The Year at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards, and was the best selling album of 2009, featuring some of Swift’s biggest early-career hits including “Love Story” and “You Belong With Me”.
Also accumulating its fair share of impressive certifications, Swift’s latest album, 2017’s Reputation. Serving as the sixth studio album from Swift, the pop album debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart with a whopping 1.216 million traditional album sales in its first week in the States. The chart-topper received its RIAA 3X Platinum Certification, recognizing sales and streams exceeding three million equivalent album units.
The singles from Reputation have faired well too. The album’s lead single “Look What You Made Me Do” received 4X platinum certification, “…Ready For It” achieved 2X platinum status, and Future and Ed Sheeran-assisted “End Game” received Platinum status, as did current single “Delicate”. The latter also became her ninth No. 1 hit on the Billboard Pop Songs radio airplay chart dated July 31st. She ties Maroon 5, Bruno Mars and P!nk for the second most No. 1s on this chart, only led by Rihanna and Katy Perry, each with 11. Needless to say, this album cycle has been a successful go around for the 28-year-old Pennsylvania native.
