First-week sales of 84,000 give Taylor Swift her third consecutive U.K. No. 1 album with Reputation (EMI/Universal), as Camila Cabello‘s “Havana” (Epic/Syco/Sony) featuring Young Thug lands a third week atop the singles chart.
Swift’s new set made a fast start with sales in its first three days on release of 65,000, but fell short of the six-figure total that some observers were predicting. But its performance came close to matching the 90,000 initial tally of its predecessor 1989 in 2014. The Official Charts Company reports that with the new album not available on streaming services, sales were a 50/50 split between physical and digital downloads.
Sam Smith‘s The Thrill of It All (Capitol/Universal) falls to No. 2 after debuting at the top last week, while another former chart-topper, Michael Ball and Alfie Boe‘s Together Again (Decca/Universal), holds at No. 3. A Love So Beautiful (Sony Music CG), by Roy Orbison with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, dips 2-4.
There’s a No. 5 entry for Elton John‘s Diamonds, the new compilation marking 50 years of his songwriting partnership with Bernie Taupin. British rock outfit (and Brit-pop survivors) Shed Seven come in at No. 8 with their fifth album, Instant Pleasures (Infectious Music), which is also the week’s bestselling album on vinyl.
Fuelled by a new remix featuring Daddy Yankee, Cabello’s single finishes some 8,000 combined units ahead of Rita Ora‘s “Anywhere” (Atlantic/Warner Music), which rises 5-2. “Rockstar” (Republic/Universal) by Post Malone featuring 21 Savage falls a place to No. 3, as do Sam Smith’s “Too Good at Goodbyes” at No. 4 and Marshmello‘s “Silence” (Ministry of Sound), featuring Khalid, at No. 5.
The week’s highest new entry on the singles chart is “Walk On Water” (Interscope/ Universal) by Eminem featuring Beyoncé, at No. 7, while Big Shaq’s “Man’s Not Hot” (Universal Island) makes the top 10 for the first time, jumping 11-8 in its eighth week in the top 40.
