The all-star track is led by Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa and Imagine Dragons, with Logic and Ty Dolla $ign, featuring X Ambassadors. The song earns Lil Wayne his ninth chart-topper, while Khalifa logs his third. It’s the first Hot Rap Songs No. 1 for the rest of the co-billed acts.
Streams provide the majority of the points that propel the song to No. 1, with 11. 8 million U.S. plays registered in the week ending Aug. 11 (a 73 percent increase, according to Nielsen Music). Spotify and YouTube lead in clicks, with each service collecting nearly 39 percent of weekly streams.
Sales of the song also jump, with a 60 percent rise (to 62,000 downloads) aiding its climb. The increased sales thrust the track 2-1 on Rap Digital Songs where it reigns for a second, non-consecutive, week. The track initially bowed atop the list on the July 16 dated chart with 67,000 first-week downloads.
“Sucker” has yet to arrive on any airplay charts, but on-air presence continues to grow with 3.9 million audience impressions earned in the week ending Aug. 14 (up 79 percent). KSEQ, Fresno, California, played the track the most, with 102 spins in the latest tracking week. The station leads by nearly double the weekly spins as next station with the highest amount of plays, KISV, Bakersfield, California (57 plays).
Meanwhile, the increased activity causes the song to vault 38-15 on the Billboard Hot 100. With the exception of Ty Dolla $ign, the jump marks the highest chat position for every artist listed on the song in at least a year (Ty reached No. 4 in the June 11 chart as a feature on Fifth Harmony’s “Work From Home”), while becoming Logic and X Ambassadors’ highest career peak yet.
The rap-rock blended track concurrently steps 4-3 on Hot Rock Songs.
