‘Suicide Squad’ Soundtrack Spends Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart

Suicide Squad earned 93,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Aug. 18, according to Nielsen Music (down 49 percent), with 50,000 of that sum comprised of traditional album sales (down 61 percent).

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Sept. 3-dated chart (where Suicide Squad leads for a second week) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Notably, Guardians of the Galaxy spent two weeks at No. 1, but did not debut at No. 1. The last soundtrack to spend its first two weeks on the chart at No. 1 was actually Fox TV’s Glee: The Music, Volume 3: Showstoppers in 2010. Further, the last theatrical film soundtrack to manage the feat was way back in 2003, when Bad Boys II spent its first four weeks at No. 1.

Following Bad Boys II, only four theatrical film soundtracks spent more than a week at No. 1, including Suicide Squad. The others are Dreamgirls in 2007 (it debuted at No. 20 and eventually climbed to the top, spending two weeks at No. 1), Frozen in 2014 (it debuted at No. 18 and then rose to rule for 13 weeks) and Guardians of the Galaxy (it debuted at No. 3, and then later spent two weeks at No. 1).

Back on the new Billboard 200, Drake’s Views holds at No. 2 with 71,000 units (down 4 percent). The album is still driven mostly by its popularity on streaming services, as its SEA total for the week was 46,000 units (down 6 percent).

One step below Drake is his OVO Sound artist PARTYNEXTDOOR, which debuts at No. 3 with PARTYNEXTDOOR 3 (P3). (Drake is co-founder of the OVO Sound label.) The PARTYNEXTDOOR 3 set earned 50,000 units, of which 28,000 were in traditional album sales – the act’s best sales week. It’s also the first top 10 for the artist, which previously visited the chart with the No. 15-peaking PARTYNEXTDOOR TWO in 2014.

Country singer Justin Moore notches his fourth top 10 album with the debut of Kinda Don’t Care at No. 4 (42,000 units; 37,000 in pure album sales). It follows his earlier top 10s Off the Beaten Path (No. 2 in 2013), Outlaws Like Me (No. 5 in 2011) and his self-titled set (No. 10 in 2009).

Twenty One PilotsBlurryface climbs one rung to No. 5 (41,000 units; down 12 percent) while DJ Khaled’s Major Key rises 7-6 (34,000; down 23 percent).

Hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd starts at No. 7 with its second top 10 album, Sremmlife 2 (27,000 units; 14,000 in pure album sales). The act’s last album, 2015’s Sremmlife, debuted and peaked at No. 5 with 49,000 units its first week (34,000 in album sales).

Rounding out the new top 10 are Adele’s 25 (10-8 with 28,000 units; up 3 percent), Rihanna’s Anti (holding at No. 9 with nearly 28,000 units; down 4 percent) and the Now 59 compilation (5-10 with 28,000 units; down 43 percent).
