Spotify’s Steve Savoca Confirms Departure

Steve Savoca will be leaving Spotify, where he oversees label relations and operations, as well as artist marketing and promotion, at the end of August to pursue other opportunities.

Spotify’s global head of label relations is heading for the exits. Steve Savoca will be leaving the streaming service, where he also oversees operations, as well as artist marketing and promotion, at the end of August to pursue a new opportunity he declined to specify.

Savoca confirmed his departure — first reported by Hits — in a statement to Billboard. “I’ve decided to leave Spotify after an incredible five+ year run of helping build a revolutionary new business,” he said. “While I’m sad to leave, I am super proud of the work I have done. I will be working through end of August to aid in the transition. I will let you know where I am going as soon as I can.”

Before joining Spotify in early 2011, Savoca was the longtime head of digital at Domino Records. He has also held senior marketing positions at the Zomba Label Group, London-Sire Records and Jive. Savoca currently serves on the board of directors of the Music Business Association (formerly NARM) and previously sat on the board at Merlin.

Spotify has not indicated who will replace Savoca in the role, which carries a vp title. The Swedish service, which has 30 million paid users, recently added Austin Darbo as senior editor of content programming in the U.K.
