Richard Conlon is joining SoundExchange as chief external affairs officer, overseeing the agency’s corporate communications, industry relations and public policy efforts. He will report to SoundExchange president and CEO Michael Huppe.
“As SoundExchange continues to evolve and provide additional services to the industry, our relationships throughout the community are even more critical,” Huppe said in a statement. “Coordinating the efforts of our external-facing departments will help us maximize value as we navigate and improve the digital environment… Richard’s track record in corporate positioning, strategy and service development will add valuable assets to our executive team.”
In recent months, Conlon had been working as a consultant to SoundExchange and for the past three years had also offered his consultant services to other music industry companies, including some of the major music publishers. Prior to that, he was a senior executive at BMI, Broadcast Music Inc., for more than 20 years, culminating in his holding the position senior vp of corporate strategy, communications and new media.
“SoundExchange is uniquely positioned to serve the industry as streaming enters the mainstream,” Conlon said in a statement. “I am excited to work with the SoundExchange team as we embrace the opportunities ahead for SoundExchange and our artists, rights owners and licensees.”
In his new role, Conlon will help shape and execute SoundExchange vision, the company said, and will be responsible for managing relationships with its wide array of constituents and stakeholders.
