Shawn Holiday has been named head of urban music at Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Billboard can exclusively reveal. Holiday steps into the newly-created post from his former role as Sony/ATV’s senior vp, A&R/creative.
Based in Los Angeles, Holiday will report to co-presidents, U.S. Danny Strick and Rick Krim. Holiday’s new position at Sony/ATV will run in tandem with his recent appointment as co-head of urban music at Sony Music’s Columbia Records.
In a statement announcing Holiday’s appointment, Sony/ATV Music Publishing chairman/CEO Martin Bandier said, “I’ve had the privilege of working with Shawn for many years, and this promotion is truly well-deserved and a valuable one for Sony/ATV. His creative instincts and people skills are amazing and he is well-respected across the music industry. He will be an important member of our senior executive team.”

I’m honored to play a bigger leadership role in developing songwriters and artists who not only create hits but move the culture in powerful ways.”
Holiday, who joined Sony/ATV in 2011 as senior vp, A&R/creative, has worked with various songwriters and artists including Cardi B, French Montana, Bryson Tiller, Daniel Caesar and Travis Scott. Holiday signed Scott to a publishing deal ahead of the rapper’s No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 with Astroworld. Nominated for best rap album at the upcoming Grammy Awards, Astroworld also features the Hot 100 No. 1 single “Sicko Mode,” which is nominated for best rap performance and best rap song.
With Columbia Records since 2013, Holiday was among the honorees featured in Billboard’s 2018 R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players list.
