Sony Music Nashville has announced a restructuring and eliminated the position of vp media relations Wendy Pearl on Friday (Nov. 15), Billboard has learned.
Pearl, a public relations veteran, joined the team at Sony Music Nashville in September 2018. She reported to Allen Brown, Sony Music Nashville’s senior vp media & corporate communications, and worked to expose the label’s emerging roster of artists including CMA vocal group of the year Old Dominion, debut chart-topper Matt Stell, who landed his first No. 1 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart last month with “Prayed for You,” and singer-songwriter Ryan Hurd.
“Being an advocate of the artist has driven me for the last three decades,” Pearl said in a statement. “Being a journalist allows me to think about how the story develops an artist career, while sidestepping potential issues. But mostly, it allows me to give these creators the dimension and connection their music deserves.
“It’s been an honor to work with Randy Goodman, Ken Robold, as well as Allen Brown’s talented team. I am looking forward to finding the best way to use the things I know for the good of country music going forward. It’s an incredible time, and I feel like there are so many incredible stories ahead.”
Sony Nashville would not reveal additional details on Pearl’s departure. “We don’t comment on departing employees,” said a label representative.
Pearl previously ran her own public relations company Wendy Pearl PR after spending nearly two decades at the Country Music Association, where she served as vp corporate communications before leaving the association in 2017. She began her career as a reporter at The Miami Herald.
