Executive Turntable: Sony/ATV Names Digital Prez, Sony Music Africa Hires Artist Dev Lead

A rundown of music industry hires and promotions at Sony/ATV, Sony Music Africa and iHeartMedia.

Antony Bebawi has been promoted to president, global digital at Sony/ATV.

In his expanded role, the London-based Bebawi will be tasked with overseeing the publisher’s worldwide digital licensing strategies and managing the Sony/ATV digital team. He will also be responsible with developing and maintaining positive relationships with digital service partners worldwide.

During his time at Sony/ATV, Bebawi has led key digital initiatives and led the negotiation of deals with the major digital services. He has additionally focused on streamlining digital royalty processing to improve accuracy and transparency in the evolving streaming landscape.

Bebawi started his publishing career at EMI Music Publishing in Sept. 2005, when he joined as UK head of business affairs after serving as a partner at London-based media and entertainment law firm Harbottle and Lewis. During his time at EMI, he implemented a pioneering restructure of the company’s digital rights and launched the first publisher-led, Pan-European digital licensing initiative outside of the traditional collection society network. Bebawi was later promoted to European General Counsel and, after Sony/ATV acquired EMI in 2007, he joined the former as executive vp, digital and society relations, international and UK.

Sony Music Entertainment Africa has enlisted Christine “Seven” Mosha to lead marketing and artist development for the East Africa region, effective immediately.

From her home base of Tanzania, Mosha will build out the company’s roster of local talent and amplify its international repertoire and existing catalog across the region. She will report to Sony Music Africa managing director Sean Watson.

A 15-year veteran of the African entertainment industry, Mosha has worked closely with Sony Music Africa for the last decade in her role at Rockstar 4000 Music Entertainment, an independent pan-African music company and content, digital and events production network. During her tenure there, she has overseen music publishing, record deals and content licensing in partnership with Sony Music Africa, including work on the campaign for the Fifa World Cup 2010, which was held in South Africa.

In 2017, Mosha launched her own independent record label and talent management company, Rockstar Africa, whose clients have included East African artists such as Lady Jaydee, Ray C, TID and Rose Muhando. She kicked off her career in 2006 as a morning radio presenter, promoter and media marketing guru at Tanzania media conglomerate Clouds Media Group and also worked in A&R at MTV in Africa.

iHeartMedia has hired Gabe Fleet as executive vp of business affairs and chief music licensing counsel, effective Jan. 11, 2021.

Fleet will head up iHeartMedia’s business affairs team, focusing his efforts on strategic deals and relationships with the company’s music and entertainment partners. Additionally, he will be responsible for leading the company’s music licensing strategy, including maintaining and renewing all music industry licenses for iHeartRadio’s digital services and performance licenses through PRO agencies.

Fleet joins iHeartMedia from law firm Greenberg Traurig, where he specialized in music licensing, original content and branded entertainment creation and distribution across multiple platforms, as well as issues of intellectual property, technology and regulatory compliance. During his tenure there, he negotiated content license agreements and other complex transactions with record companies, music publishers, PROs and other rightsholders while also offering strategic counseling to companies in music, entertainment and digital media.

Interscope Records has promoted Ramon Alvarez-Smikle to senior vp, head of urban digital marketing, a newly-created role. He was previously senior director digital and content marketing.

Based in Santa Monica, Alvarez-Smikle will oversee digital marketing efforts across Interscope’s entire roster of hip-hop and R&B/soul artists, reporting to chief revenue officer/global head of streaming & strategy Gary Kelly.

For the last four years, Alvarez-Smikle has led digital marketing campaigns for artists including J. Cole, Playboi Carti, 6LACK and Juice WRLD. Prior to being hired at Interscope in 2016, he was music partnerships manager at Shazam, where he helped expand the company’s label and artist relations. He kicked off his career at the Recording Academy, where he worked in social media and wrote for

Ingrooves Music Group has named Ariana Arciniega country manager of Ingrooves in Mexico. She will be based in the company’s newly-opened Mexico City office.

Arciniega was trained as a lawyer, with a specialty in digital music distribution and marketing. She joins Ingrooves from Believe, where she has worked since 2017, first as country manager for its Mexico operation and later as head of artist services. During that time, she also led the Mexico City chapter of Sofar Sounds. Prior to that, Arciniega worked for ONErpm during the company’s first years in Mexico.

Sony/ATV has promoted Sharon Boyse to senior vp, international operations and society relations.

Based in London, Boyse will oversee affiliate administration operation teams company-wide and be tasked with collaborating with regional leaders, negotiating global deals, maintaining relationships with industry affiliates and societies and advising Sony/ATV’s digital teams in her new role.

Boyse, who began her career at CBS Music Publishing in 1990, has over 30 years of experience in the music industry and is widely known for her expertise in international music publishing administration and her close collaborations with several copyright societies. She was recently elected board director for the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO).

Oak View Group (OVG) and the Seattle Kraken NHL team have announced the hiring of Adrian Dishington as vp of hospitality and retail and Jacque Holowaty as vp of employee and guest experience at the new Climate Pledge Arena, effective immediately.

Dishington will lead and define the arena’s business standards around guest experience, retail, food and beverage operations and financial performance. He joins OVG from Sodexo, where he served as a Seattle-based regional senior vp of operations for Centerplate and oversaw the entire western region, including T-Mobile Park. Prior to that, he was chief operating officer for Centerplatte Europe and also held roles at Aramark, Norwegian Cruise Lines and Princess Cruises.

Holowaty, who has 15 years of experience in the sports and entertainment industry, will lead the arena’s guest experience program. She previously worked for Spectra, where she hold a number of box office and leadership roles and eventually rose to become vp of client experience & ticketing.

Climate Pledge Arena is slated to open in fall 2021. It will host the Seattle Kraken’s inaugural 2021-22 season as well as the WNBA’s Seattle Storm.

Gibson has added 300 Entertainment CEO, chairman and co-founder Kevin Liles to its board of directors.

Prior to founding 300 Entertainment, Liles headed up KWL Enterprises, which handled brand management for artists, athletes and music. He also previously served as executive vp at Warner Music Group and president of Def Jam. In November, Billboard named Liles R&B/hip-hop executive of the year.

Sarah Landy has been named vp of Lowly., the independent label founded in 2017 The Nations founder Andrew Benz and president Creighton Burke. In the newly-created role, Landy will oversee all aspects of label operations.

Landy hails from AWAL, which she joined in 2014 to help establish the company’s U.S. operations. As general manager and senior vp, she oversaw distributions and label services for artists and labels and played a key role in curating the company’s roster. During her time there, she negotiated deals with artists including Steve Lacy, Awkwafina and Bekon and labels including B3SCI Records, W Records, Nickelodeon and Lowly.

Prior to AWAL, Landy led marketing for Sony Music Enertainment’s (RED), having been hired to develop and launch its external marketing agency. She started her career as a publicist at music PR firm Press Here Publicity in 2002 and later worked in label publicity at Quannum. Following that, she oversaw publicity and digital marketing at label services company World’s Fair.
