Billboard’s Annual Songs of the Summer Chart Returns, Led by Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande’s ‘Rain on Me’

What will be the No. 1 song of the summer of 2020? We can officially begin making our way toward the answer, as Billboard‘s annual Songs of the Summer chart returns to today (June 3).

The 20-position Songs of the Summer running tally tracks the most popular titles based on cumulative performance on the weekly streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Billboard Hot 100 chart from Memorial Day through Labor Day (this year encompassing charts dated June 6 through Sept. 5). At the end of the season, the top song of the summer will be revealed.

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande‘s “Rain on Me,” the Hot 100’s new leader, ranks at No. 1 on 2020’s first Songs of the Summer chart (dated June 6). Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage,” featuring Beyoncé, places at No. 2, followed by DaBaby’s “Rockstar,” featuring Roddy Ricch (No. 3), The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” (No. 4) and Doja Cat’s “Say So” (No. 5).


Last year, Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” claimed the title of No. 1 song of the summer, after Drake’s “In My Feelings” won in 2018. In 2017, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, wore the crown, after Drake’s “One Dance,” featuring WizKid and Kyla, reigned in 2016 and OMI’s “Cheerleader” took top honors in 2015.
