Just how fast is Snapchat growing? Sources confirmed to Billboard that the popular messaging app is now averaging seven billion mobile views per day, up from six less than two months ago. That figure, first reported by Bloomberg, brings Snapchat within a million-or-so views of Facebook, which has approximately 1.5 billion users to Snapchat’s 100 million. Just under a year ago, the company was said to be worth about $19 billion.

Bloomberg also reports that this sharp spike in video views can be attributed to the success of Snapchat Stories, a feature that allows users to share photos and clips that are viewable for 24 hours. Snapchat’s core feature continues to be “snaps,” short videos or photos that are sent to friends but self-destruct after 10 seconds. In particuar, DJ Khaled has generated a lot of attention recently with his prolific use of the platform.

As previously noted, Snapchat and Facebook don’t agree on what should count as a “view.” On Snapchat, a user must click on the video for it to be tallied, while Facebook counts auto-played videos in your news feed (as long as they run for three seconds).

“Over the next few years, video is going to be some of the most engaging content online,” Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during an earnings call on Nov. 4. Snapchat famously turned down a $3 billion offer from Facebook to acquire the company in 2013.

Snapchat did immediately return a request for comment.
