The song increased by 15% to 33.6 million audience impressions in the week ending April 5, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
“Seeing ‘Dance’ go to No. 1 is a huge honor, especially as a co-writer,” Davis tells Billboard of the track, which he penned with Lonnie Fowler. “I moved to Nashville with the hopes of maybe one day having a No. 1, and this being my second means the world to me. I have an amazing team around me that makes these things possible. Especially during such a trying time in our country right now, this is uplifting. I’m very grateful.”
“Dance” is Davis’ third Country Airplay entry. His debut release “Singles You Up” led for a week in April 2018 (in its 43rd frame) and “Take It From Me” reached No. 2 in March 2019.
“Dance” completes the third-longest trip to the Country Airplay summit, after Jimmie Allen’s “Make Me Want To” (58 weeks; 2019-20) and Chris Young’s “Voices” (51 weeks, 2008-11).
All three of Davis’ Country Airplay hits are from his debut album Home State, which arrived at its No. 6 peak on Top Country Albums in April 2018. The 32-year-old from Shreveport, La., co-wrote all 12 songs on the set.
On the airplay-, streaming- and sales-fueled Hot Country Songs chart, “Dance” darts 9-6. It drew 6.2 million U.S. streams (up 3%) and sold 2,000 downloads (up 9%) in the week ending April 2. Davis earns his third top five hit on the chart, after “Singles” and “Take” each reached No. 4.
TOP 10 ‘LADY’ Ingrid Andress’ debut LP Lady Like arrives at No. 9 on Top Country Albums (9,000 units). The artist co-wrote all eight tracks on the set, including “More Hearts Than Mine,” which reaches the Country Airplay top five (9-5; 27.1 million, up 7%) and hits a new high on Hot Country Songs (12-8).
GOOD ‘CATCH’ Brett Young nets his sixth Hot Country Songs top 10 as “Catch” jumps 13-7. It hauled in 32.4 million in radio reach (up 7%), as it holds at No. 2 on Country Airplay, and 6.1 million streams (up 41%).
WALLEN’S THIRD TOP 10 Morgan Wallen’s “Chasin’ You” lifts 11-7 on Country Airplay (26.7 million, up 16%), becoming his third top 10. The song follows his leaders “Whiskey Glasses,” which ruled for three weeks starting in June 2019, and “Up Down” (featuring Florida Georgia Line) which led for a week in June 2018.
‘LIGHT’ SHINES Plus, Thomas Rhett’s “Be a Light,” featuring Reba McEntire, Hillary Scott, Chris Tomlin and Keith Urban, enters Country Digital Song Sales at No. 1 (12,000), Hot Country Songs at No. 19 and Country Airplay at No. 27 (7.5 million).Rhett co-penned the song in late 2019 with Matt Dragstrem, Josh Miller and Josh Thompson and released it March 31 to provide comfort during the COVID-19 crisis.
