Bruno Mars Ties Usher For Third Most Rhythmic Airplay No. 1s

Silk Sonic's "Smokin out the Window" pushes the singer to a tie for the bronze.

Radio victories keep coming for Silk Sonic’s “Smokin Out the Window,” which jumps to No. 1 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay chart dated Feb. 5. The single from the duo of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak ascends from No. 4 thanks to a 13% surge in plays to become the most played song on U.S. monitored rhythmic radio stations in the week ending Jan. 30, according to MRC Data.

The new coronation is the second in two weeks for “Smokin.” Last week, the song topped the Adult R&B Airplay list. (On the latest edition, it falls to No. 2 after that seven-day reign.)

“Smokin” gives Silk Sonic a second No. 1 on Rhythmic Airplay. The duo’s debut release, “Leave the Door Open,” led for one week in May. Their only other single to reach Rhythmic Airplay, “Skate,” peaked at No. 15 in September.

As Silk Sonic entries contribute to the individual chart accounts of both Mars and .Paak, “Smokin’” yields Mars’ 13th Rhythmic Airplay No. 1. He now ties Usher for the third-most chart champs since the list began in 1992. The pair trail only Drake (33) and Rihanna (17).

Here’s a rundown of Mars’ 13 Rhythmic Airplay victors:

  • “Nothin’ on You,” B.o.B. featuring Bruno Mars, seven weeks at No. 1, beginning April 3, 2010
  • “Grenade,” one, March 5, 2011
  • “Lighters,” Bad Meets Evil featuring Bruno Mars, four, Oct. 1, 2011
  • “Young, Wild & Free,” Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa featuring Bruno Mars, three, March 3, 2012
  • “Locked Out of Heaven,” one, Feb. 9, 2013
  • “Uptown Funk!,” Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars, five, beginning Feb. 14, 2015
  • “24K Magic,” one, Dec. 17, 2016
  • “That’s What I Like,” three, April 15, 2017
  • “Finesse,” with Cardi B, two, Feb. 17, 2018
  • “Wake Up in the Sky,” with Gucci Mane & Kodak Black, three, Dec. 1, 2018
  • “Please Me,” with Cardi B, one, April 13, 2019
  • “Leave the Door Open,” as Silk Sonic, one, May 1, 2021
  • “Smokin Out the Window,” as Silk Sonic, one (to date), Feb. 5, 2022

For Anderson .Paak, both of his Rhythmic Airplay champs have occurred during his Silk Sonic tenure. Outside of the project, his best peak was No. 15, twice, with Silk Sonic’s “Skate” and a featured turn on Cordae’s “RNP” in 2019.

Elsewhere, “Smokin” repeats at No. 2 for a seventh consecutive week on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, but adds 4% in audience to 21.5 million in the week ending Jan. 30. The gains push “Smokin” toward potentially ousting the long-reigning champ of Wizkid’s “Essence,” featuring Tems, which has dominated for 23 consecutive weeks.
