Music podcast label Sigal Co. No1 is growing its ranks with the recruitment of Serial and S-Town producer Julie Snyder, plus a slate of new podcasts to come hosted by Sigur Rós, Best Coast frontwoman Bethany Cosentino and Ziggy Marley.
Snyder, a broadcasting veteran who also served as senior producer of This American Life, will take on the role of producer-at-large at the podcast label, which just launched in January. “I genuinely believe Signal are building a foundation for a great company,” she adds in a press release. “They are creating podcasts that are creative, boundary-pushing and artful.”
Heading the startup as founder and CEO is industry vet Kevin Wortis, who founded World’s Fair label group and is a former agent and manager for the likes of The Cure, Rob Zombie, Pretty Lights, Amanda Palmer and David Lynch. Also among the company’s ranks are Mass Appeal Records managing director Jeff Clyburn, who serves as Signal’s head of operations, Radiolab cofounder Mikel Ellcessor, who will serve as executive producer, and others.
Signal describes itself as “a podcast label dedicated exclusively to music culture.” The company recently partnered with Pixies for its first original release, Past is Prologue, a 12-part documentary podcast that follows the making of the band’s upcoming album. The series kicks off with host Tony Fletcher on June 27 and will debut a new installment each week leading up the album’s release in September 2019.
