SHINee‘s grand 10-year anniversary comeback keeps getting grander with a rare hat trick on the charts this week.
The long-running boy band’s latest release, The Story Of Light’ EP.2 : The 6th Mini Album, debuts at No. 4 on Billboard‘s World Albums chart. The new set sold 1,000 copies in the week ending June 14, according to Nielsen Music. A few rungs down the tally, the group’s Story Of Light’ EP.1 sits at No. 11 for its third week on the chart.
The double appearance of different albums from one act on World Albums makes SHINee just the fifth K-pop act to score two simultaneous entries on the chart for the same week. To date, that feat had only been accomplished by EXO (for one week), Tablo (also for one week), G-Dragon (for five different weeks) and BTS (42 different weeks).
As previously reported, SHINee’s EP.1 earned the guys their eighth top 5 album on World Albums. With EP.2 scoring the band yet another, SHINee now tie BTS for most top 5 albums from K-pop acts on the chart with nine apiece.
Elsewhere on the charts, EP.2 also debuts at No. 5 on the Heatseekers Albums chart — SHINee’s fourth top 5 entry there — as well as their new single “I Want You” starts at No. 10 on the World Digital Song Sales chart for their 16th top 10 entry on the ranking. SHINee’s Story Of Light’ EP.1 EP and single “View” both peaked at No. 2 on Heatseekers Albums and World Digital Songs, respectively, marking the band’s best rankings on both charts.
The third and final installment in SHINee’s The Story of Light trilogy will arrive on June 25, fronted by new single “Our Page,” and is expected to also make a dent on the charts upon arrival. If they can land all three Light EPs is to be seen, but what’s clear is that SHINee’s 10-year anniversary is cause for a celebration not only for the beloved K-pop group and its fans, but for its increasing chart accomplishments.
