Now with 15 chart-toppers, Shinedown pulls alongside Three Days Grace for the most leaders since the tally began in 1981. It’s a battle that’s been simmering ever since both acts became familiar faces on the chart; both bands first reached Mainstream Rock Songs in 2003, and Three Days Grace’s first No. 1 came in 2004, followed by Shinedown’s in 2005.
“We are speechless and over the moon to have reached this milestone,” Shinedown frontman Brent Smith tells Billboard. “Thank you to every single passionate fan that is a part of the Shinedown family and to all of the amazing radio stations in the rock format that have supported us over the years — you continue to inspire and we could not have achieved any of this without you. Onward and upward we all rise together.”
Shinedown moves into a tie thanks to the fact that the band has now scored four leaders from Attention Attention, its sixth studio album, released in May 2018. Comparatively, Three Days Grace earned three No. 1s from Outsider, its sixth studio album, released two months earlier in March 2018, but the band did not opt to send a fourth single to radio, allowing Shinedown to close the gap.
Most No. 1s, Mainstream Rock Songs
15, Three Days Grace
13, Van Halen
10, Tom Petty (solo and with the Heartbreakers)
“Attention Attention” also marks Shinedown’s fifth straight No. 1; prior to the release of Attention Attention, the band reached No. 1 with “How Did You Love” in March 2017. It’s the band’s loftiest streak of No. 1s in a row (it previously scored four in a row from July 2010 to August 2012).
Concurrently, “Attention Attention” bullets at No. 13 on the all-rock-format Rock Airplay chart (after reaching No. 11) with 3.7 million audience impressions, up 3%, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
