Shawn Mendes Goes ‘Back’ to No. 1 on Pop Songs Chart
The singer-songwriter joins an exclusive club of artists with at least two leaders on the list before turning 20.

Shawn Mendes‘ “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” rises 2-1 to crown Billboard‘s Pop Songs radio airplay chart (dated Aug. 26). The singer-songwriter earns his second No. 1 on the list, as his debut entry “Stitches” led for two weeks in 2015.
(The chart measures total weekly plays, as tabulated by Nielsen Music, among its reporting panel of 166 mainstream top 40 stations.)
As Mendes turned 19 on Aug. 8, he becomes one of only five acts — and two males — to have tallied multiple Pop Songs No. 1s before age 20: Chris Brown and Avril Lavigne each collected three leaders to that point, while Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears each posted two.
On the all-genre airplay, streaming and sales-based Billboard Hot 100, “Back” has hit a No. 8 high so far. Check back later today (Aug. 14) for highlights of the new, Aug. 26-dated Hot 100’s top 10. All charts will update tomorrow (Aug. 15) on Billboard.com.
