Selena Gomez Eyes High Debut on U.K. Chart With ‘Rare’
"Rare" starts at No. 4 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart Update and is the most-downloaded album at the midweek stage, according to the OCC.

Selenators are clearly pleased with the return of their hero.
With her new album Rare (Interscope), Selena Gomez is on track for her first U.K. top 10. The LP starts at No. 4 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart Update and is the most-downloaded album at the midweek stage, according to the OCC.
Gomez has never led the U.K. singles or albums charts. Indeed, the former Disney star has a chart best of No. 11, the peak for her 2015 album Revival.
Rare isn’t the highest new entry on the midweek chart. That honor belongs to Easy Life’s third mixtape Junk Food (Island). The runner’s up on BBC Music’s Sound Of 2020 poll, the alternative group is on target for a No. 3 entry on the weekly chart.
Currently, the midweek survey is led by Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent (EMI), with Stormzy’s Heavy Is The Head (Merky/Atlantic) in second place.
Also noteworthy is the new album from Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Elgar (Decca). The British cello player rose to fame after performing at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding in May 2018, and went on to become the highest-charting cellist ever, with his debut album Inspiration hitting No. 11.
Elgar, with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Simon Rattle, is at No. 6 on the midweek chart.
Elsewhere, Future’s new collaboration with Drake, “Life Is Good,” is on track to be this week’s highest new entry on the Official U.K. Singles Chart. It starts at No. 7 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart Update, with Stormzy’s “Own It” (Cash Money/Republic/RCA) featuring Ed Sheeran and Burna Boy holding onto top spot.
The Official U.K. Singles and Albums Charts are published late Friday, local time.
